Midsummer Night's Dream

We went to see Northern Ballet Theatre's Midsummer Night's Dream last week. It was wonderful. The sets and costumes were stunning.

V&A

I finally made it to the V&A and saw two wonderful exhibitions - The Art of Lee Miller and The Golden Age of Couture (1947-1957).

We went on a Saturday and the Couture exhibition was a bit too busy, so it was difficult to see everthing. There was lots of film footage, beautiful frocks (of course) - I bought postcards of two of my favourite dresses (pic above), and some amazing couture dolls with exquisite miniature accessories (you can see a photograph on the V&A website:

King Penguin

I discovered King Penguin books last year when I noticed a few on my boyfriend's mother's bookshelf when we were round for lunch. The series was published in the 1940s and each book includes beautiful colour plates. Most of all though, I love the illustrated endpapers - such lovely designs and colours.

First up is 'Birds and la Plata', followed by 'Seashore life and pattern'

Birdcage earrings

Birdcage earrings on a 1940s bird book and dangling from my vintage ornamental birdcage. Although I love the shape of birdcages, I don't like to think of birds caged up so made these earrings with the birds perched on top of the cages.
